Wright State Republicans Stick By DeLay

Calling the 2 indictments a "misunderstanding" and ignoring a history of blatant ethical lapses, the chairman of the Wright State College Republicans, Courtney Cunningham, expressed support for Tom DeLay and said "may God be with him in this difficult time."

"It is ignorant to compare the troubles of one politician with the fate of an entire party," said Cunningham in response to Nancy Pelosi's attempt to do exactly that in a press conference. Unfortunately for Cunningham, the things Pelosi mentioned-- corruption, cronyism, and incompetence-- are indeed characteristic of the Republican Party, not just DeLay.

So whether DeLay is ousted or not is really not the issue. If he goes, he will be replaced by protege Roy Blunt who will continue government-by-the-highest-bidder. The problem is institutional, not personal, and the way to change it is by changing campaign finance laws.

I don't usually bag on an entire university, BUT Courtney Cunningham's comments make it clear why she could not get into any place other than Wright State University.

"The actions of one member should not reflect the actions or connotations associated with the entire party." - Well actually, if the one member is the Majority house leader, then, Yes, they should.

"The Republican Party continues to be strong and unified" - Has she looked at ANY polls lately? Any? seriously?

"his incident will not slow us down at all, so any fantasies that the left has concocted about chaos within the party will be destroyed in the months to come," - What is she smoking?

Well I'm glad Wright State is still pumping out the same caliber of students. Oh, and O.U. sucks also.

Where the hell are the College Democrats on campus attacking them on this and defending their school?

One person does not reflect the entire Republican Party, is true. What ever happened to the phrase a person is innocent to proven guilty. If your party continues to drift to far left, you will never gain power. Usually the Presidents party, looses seats during his tenure in office, this has not happened yet. It’s even more true during the sixth year of office. So when the republicans have 60 seats don’t come crying to me, cause you cant filibuster judges ect..

We will maintain the house, we will prevail in Iraq, and we will win the war on terror, contrary to belief of your party’s chairman.
And you will loose in 2008

By the way Courtney is a 4.0 student.

I was the Vice President of the WSU College Democrats in 2004, and while Ms. Cunningham and I do have ideological differences, I have a problem with her being attacked in this blog.

I work with Courtney in Student Government (I am the Vice President, she is Director of Public Relations) and she is an AMAZINGLY intelligent woman with a killer work ethic. We do not see eye to eye on all issues, but I respect her as a co-worker, and as a very close friend.

I am appalled that you would attack her over ONE SENTENCE...and I am even more appalled that Wright State was bashed on top of it. We may not be a Tier One school, but we're a credible, young, and "up-and-coming" University. There are so many BRILLIANT people who attend this institution...and its ignorant to judge someone's intelligence based on where they attend school.

By the way, she DID get into other schools besides Wright State. It's rediculous to make an assumption about the young lady when its so obvious that none of you know anything about her.
